We are finishing our basement stairs, and I'm struggling with how to drywall the side that is parallel to and tight against the foundation. Should I pull down the stairs, frame the wall, hang drywall, and put them back up? Or can I just frame against the foundation and stairs and let the drywall tie into the stairs? I don't care what it looks like below the stairs because it will be a cedar lined closet.
We also don't plan on framing a full wall here because the stairs are already narrow and we can't spare the space. We planned on using 1×2 stock attached to the foundation, and securing the drywall to that.
